UC Browser 7.7

UC Browser 7.7

The UC Browser has been upgraded to version 7.7.  According to UC, the new features in this release include:

  • Better page rendering
  • Improved night mode with dimmer images for less glare
  • Inline editing. Input directly into fields on the web page
  • Detects touch screens and optimizes for them
  • Improved URL auto completion
  • Faster page switching

I tested UC 7.7 on the Motorola Rambler (it doesn’t work on the iDEN phones).  I think pages do look better easpecially in “zoom” (desktop mode.

The new inline editing doesn’t work  properly with the Rambler’s QWERTY keyboard.  In inline mode the Caps key doesn’t work and the  “Q” and “P” keys act like the left and right soft keys; Q opens the menu and P deletes the last character so you have to switch to full-screen edit mode to type P and Q or enter upper case letters.

To make matters worst, when you switch to full-screen edit UC turns caps lock on and you have to press the Caps key twice to get back to lower case. Also unlike Opera and Bolt there’s no way to turn off inline editing permanently, you have to press the left softkey and choose “Edit” or “Symbol/Paste” for seach field to switch to full-screen.

If you are using UC Browser 7.6, I recomend at least trying 7.7.   If you don’t like it, you can easily switch back to 7.6.
