I got a request for a big clock app that could be used in place of the default home screen.  The user wanted something that showed the time and date and had a choice of analog and digital clock displays.  I looked at quite a few clock apps but didn't not find anything that met all those requirements.

One of the best clock apps I did find was Big Clock which is a full screen digital clock that lets you choose the background and foreground colors and switch between 12 hour and 24 hour displays. It can also play a chime on the hour. The display adapts to fit all screen sizes.

There's an alarm function but it's not really useful on iDEN phones as it only vibrates and doesn't ring plus it doesn't work  at all when the app is running in the background.

No Java app can totally replace the default home screen on iDEN phones.  The best you can do is set an app to start up when the phone powers up by going to Menu > Settings > Personalize > Start Up. Also assign a softkey or arrow key to the app so you can resume it with a single key press. To assign an app to a key press Menu > Settings > Personalize.  That way the app will start when you turn on the phone.  You can suspend to make a  call or send a text by pressing the End Call key twice and then resume it with the soft key or arrow key that you have assigned.

Egg Timer is a countdown timer. It's not just for boiling eggs though, you can also use it for any kind of cooking as well as timing workouts, meditation or any sort of process. Set it for any duration up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds. The remaining time is displays as it counts down and a load alarm sounds when the countdown gets to zero.

Up, down - set the time
Left, right - jump between setting minutes and seconds

Sunclock (by the author of Weather) is a world clock app that shows the current time in five cities of your chosing along with a world map with an overlay showing which which parts of the world are in sunlight or darkness.

Sunclock has several advantages over #!Globaltime. It's easier to set up, doesn't truncate city names and shows more cities at once.  I think it looks nicer too.

When you first install Sunclock the time will be wrong and city names and times will overlap. Both issues are easy to fix.

To set the time you have to assign your location as the Home city:

Press the right softkey (labeled search) and enter the name of the nearest sizable city in your time zone and press Query.  Then highligh your city and press the left softkey (labeled "Select"). Highlight "Main - Budapest" and choose "Replace". On the next screen press the left softkey (labeled "OK") and the times should be correct. Use the same process to replace the other four cities to ones you prefer.

To fix the overlapping labels:

Press the menu key and change the Font size to Small.

You might also want to change the Time format to 12h in the same menu.

Do you need track the time spent on a one or more projects, jobs or activities? Time Tracker is an easy to use program for recording time spent on multiple tasks.  You can stop and start long running projects and switch between projects at will.

One thing I don't like about this program  is that you must keep Time Tracker running in the foreground while recording time.  If you put it in the background by pressing the red key twice it not only stops tracking but also discards the time recorded in the current session!  You must stop the timer and save the the session before suspending.

A date arithmetic calendar that lets you find the number of days between two dates, calculate the date that is a specified number of days in the future or past and much more.

This could be a handy tool for Boost  Pay As You Go users to determine when their minutes expire.  Just add 89 days to your last payment date and DaysToDay will tell you the last day you can refill before your minutes expire and you lose your balance. Once you calculate your refill by date, set up a reminder with alarm in the phone's calendar so you don't forget.

If you call people in other timezones or are just curious about time around the world this is a the app for you.  Quickly look up the current time anywhere in the world using  a scrolling world map interface or city pick-list.  Uncrippled shareware. The author suggests sending him an email thanking him if you do not wish to pay.

Important: There is a bug in this program when run on iDEN phones that will cause the wrong  time be displayed.  For it to work correctly do the following,

The first time you run Global Time it will show you a screen with the time, which will be incorrect, and ask you to set it. Do not change the time on this screen, just press OK and then choose your home city on the next screen. The program will now work correctly!

If you have already installed Global Time and it is showing the wrong time, uninstall it and reinstall as described above.

A rather nice stopwatch app with split and lap times, best, worst and average lap times.
