Albite Ebook Reader
Albite Reader is a free eBook reader with bookmark and table of contents support and many features. It works on touch and non-touch phones and supports books in the popular ePub format as well as text and html files.
Tips:
- Copy one or more eBooks to your phone’s SD card before launching the reader. Good sources of free ePub books include: Project Gutenberg, Feedbooks.com and ManyBooks.net.
- On some Samsung, and possibly other brands of phones, Albite can’t find eBooks on the memory card unless they are in one of the phone’s predefined folders like photos or music.
- If a book’s text is blurry, open the menu and choose “Switch Native / Bitmap Fonts”.

After an extensive search, I’ve concluded Albite to be the hands down best eBook reader. Apparently, I can’t have my cake and eat it too because the app is riddled with “untrusted midlet” messages. Unfortunately, my new LG306G does not allow adjusting permissions for unsigned apps. Obtaining a signed version of Albite would be golden, but I’ll settle for any signed Java eBook reader. I have no problem switching formats if necessary (ex. PDFEPUB). I was hoping to find something here but came up empty. Does anyone know of a solution for CLDC1.1/MIDP2.1 phones?
I don’t think you will find any signed eBook reader apps. Signing costs a developer about $500/year and there’s no revenue stream from Java apps to support the cost.
You should be able to use eBooks that that are wrapped into a reader app as these don’t need to access the file system or the internet and shouldn’t need to ask permission. You can find these on:
http://www.booksinmyphone.com/
http://mnybks.net/ (download books in JAR format)
http://m.gutenberg.or (download books in QiOO format)
You can also create self contained eBook apps from text, palm doc, PDF and other formats using the free TCBR Windows PC app. You read a review of TCBR and download it here: http://wapreview.com/393/
Thank-you for taking the time to write such comprehensive response.

Is good
I like the reader 🙂
I know you may not be able to answer this question, but in the JMEBoy (I have a LG Rumor Touch Provider: Sprint) I do not know how to edit the jar for a “priority directory” and yes I looked through all the comments.
I’m glad you like the reader but please post questions about JMEBoy on the J2MEBoy page. Off topic comments are just noise and don’t get answers.
I also don’t understand what you mean by “priority directory”, please explain what you are trying to accomplish.
