MujMail
The best general purpose email program for iDen phones I’ve seen yet. It’s quite full featured and supports POP and IMAP with SSL, HTML mail which it displays as plain text and viewing attachments.
The best thing about MujMail is that it connects directly to your Gmail, Hotmail or ISP mail server. Lt2Mail and Pico mail connect to their own servicers. There are potential security risks in that, plus if their servers go down or the companies go out of business you lose your mail service. MujMail should always work.
I tested MujMail with Gmail and it works using the following settings:
On the mail account setup page:
Email: Your full Gmail address ([email protected], for example)
Protocol: IMAP4
SSL: Use SSL
SSLtype: Use mujMail SSL
Server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
User name: Your full Gmail email address
Password: Your Gmail password
On the SMTP tab, highlight SMTP, press Edit and set the following:
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP SSL: Use SSL
SSLtype: Use mujMail SSL
SMTP Port: 465
SMTP User name: Your full Gmail email address
SMTP password: Your Gmail password.
If you get a DNS error sending or recieving mail check that there isn’t a trailing space on either of the server addresses.
MujMail should work with other email services that support POP or IMAP like Hotmail (settings here) or AIM/AOL Mail (settings here). I have not tested these services or settings, however.
MujMail is supposed to support IMAP idle (push email) and SMTP email polling (checking for new mail every 5 minutes ) and sound a tone when you have new mail. However this feature did not seem to work for me and I had to manually retrieve mails.

I don’t know. Why don’t you try it and let us know.
CORRECTION: In my last post, I misreported that this app does not push or sound a tone when new mail is received on the Clutch. Both features do work after all. First select PUSH, hit the CALL button, then up or down and you’ll see the Push status change to ACTIVE. Then any e-mails sent to the linked address should push within a few seconds to your phone. You will only hear a tone if the app is active however, it does not notify you when suspended.
Google For Mail still seems to open, check, and send mail faster, but MujMail’s interface is fun to navigate.
I installed MujMail on my i465g Clutch and linked my GMail account to it. The interface looks great, and navigates fast, however it takes a LOT longer to check for and send new e-mails, and does not push, poll or make a notification sound. The compose menu does allow you to attach files, but brings you to a directory on the Clutch that is inaccessible (I believe this is a limitation of the phone, not app). It also allows you to view attachments, however it takes quite a while to download. So if you use primarily GMail, I would stick with Mail For Google 1.5.0 as it offers about the same features at a much faster speed.
When will there be a simple mail that offers WORKING push and polling… 😉
Update: the behavior described in my last post apparently only occurs if I set a password for running the program.
Love it. Now i can get access to my gmail account. The boost e mail / im wouldn’t work. Very happy. Thx 🙂
