iRadio
Here’s something people have been requesting forever here on BoostApps, a streaming Internet Radio app that actually works on Boost iDEN and Nextel phones. I’ve tried over a dozen radio apps and never managed to find one that worked on my i776.
The wait is over thanks to BoostApps reader Lise, who found iRadio on GetJar and got it working on her i856. Lise was kind enough to share her find with us.
iRadio has a directory over offer 500 stations which you can browse or search for a particular type of music like hip hop or classical.
According to Lise, on the i856 it takes several minutes to load the list of stations and a couple more to begin playing the selected station, but it does actually work and the sound is good.
I never managed to get iRadio to play anything on my i776. The program did install and run. But it took nine minutes to load the station list. After I picked a station I waited another 40 minutes but it never started playing. The i856 and i9 have a much faster processor and twice as much memory as the other iDEN phones. I suspect that iRadio will only work on the i9 and i856

Well, this program seems to be a wash. It should work, expecially if you use lower bandwidths, but for the time being, if anyone wants to listen to radio stations played over the telephone line itself there is a service called UpSnap, designed to do just that. You dial a telephone number and then get lists of radio stations that play on various “extensions” of that telephone number
The web site for this is:
http://www.upsnap.com/
If you look at the menu that says “Mobile Radio” you will see a list of genres under that. Click on any one of the genres listed and you get to a page with more genres.
For example, if you want to hear Radio Telefis Eirann (Irish National Radio) you dial the main number and put in 1729 after you have connected to the main number
Want to hear Radio Israel’s morning fifteen minute English Broadcast, put in 1019. For the evening broadcast it is 1032. Radio Australia is 1029.
They have a ton of musical stations as well Genres are:
Urban
Dance and Techno
Pop
Rock, Etc.
Classic Rock
Country
World
Jazz
Oldies
Religion
Alt-Indie
Blues
Eclectic Mix
Grab Bag
Hard Edge
Lite
Classical
Sports
Entertainment
Business
Religion
Technology
News and Talk
Living
International
Most of the Sky.FM music streams are available through this dial in method
You dial a telephone number:
704-772-7627
And then put in the extension for the radio station that you want to hear. The basic stations package is free, supported by advertising.
Great for those with the 50 dollar unlimited plan. Not so hot if you are on paygo.
RAWR ! now it asks me for an activation code WTH ! Im gonna delete it &’d re-do this again, hopefully it works. =\
