Minuet Browser

Minuet Browser

I don’t know much about this browser.  It’s seems to be an abandoned commercial product, last updated in 2006 and no longer sold or supported. The publisher was kind enough to upload it to Getjar where it’s available for free. It’s a trial version but the activation code  to unlock it is 12345.  The code is posted on the GetJar download page.  BoostApps reader Ami found Minuet on Getjar and recommended it.

Unlike Opera Mini and Bolt which use a server to compress and  optimize pages for mobile use,  Minuet downloads and process pages all by itself just like Internet Explorer or Firefox do on the desktop. Direct mobile browsers like Minuet are slower  than proxy based ones like Opera Mini.  Still Minuet seems pretty quick especially on pages without a lot of images.  I think the trick is that Minuet delivers a simplified  single column view of pages without background colors, borders or other styling. Text is always black on white and all the same size with no bold or italics.

Minuet handles small simple sites like the BoostApps mobile version well, but on larger pages not all images load.  Plus I had trouble logging into a few sites and some pages failed  to  load at all.

  2. It is the only browser I found up to now which works direct and so it is the only browser to login in into hotspots. So it is more than a great app!!!!

  3. Tried it out on my i856debut some things worked still had problems loading different pages and sites. Love what you’ve been doing dennis but ive downloaded bolt, opera mini 5 and ucweb. I suggest any one of those. Keep us in the race dennis.

  4. opera mini it is

  5. I also noticed this app is big for what it does! The sites don’t even look authentic in this browser. I see why they probably abandoned this. What a work of art. Sorry, but it really is lousy!

  6. I hate to say this but this browser SUCKS!!! Displays are like my native Openwave browser and it’s far worse than BOLT. Wasted space up here for this. Why would anyone recommend THIS? Looks like a beefed up Openwave. I’ll stick to my Opera’s.

  7. I recommended this to u over a yr ago remember?,u know before there were any other tabbed browsers compatible with “dumb phones” like the 465/776 etc…To bad you waited so long to post it..

    • I remember. At the time I was unable to determine if it was legal for me to redistribute Minuet. The fact that it’s on Getjar, which is very careful about only hosting legal software, convinced me to post it.
