uTweetMe

Update: uTweeteMe has been updated to version 1.3 alpha.  Because of changes Twitter made to the login process (OAuth is now required)  the previous version no longer works and you have to update to continue sing uTweeteMe. There's been a small enhancement. You can now view @Replies to you on their own page.

I've received a few requests for a better Twitter client than TinyTwitter. I just sent an hour looking at a bunch of them and frankly they are all pretty bleak.  The best of the bunch seems to be uTweetMe.

It's fast, all keys are mapped correctly and it's fairly full featured. You can view your Friends Timeline, Tweet, Retweet, Reply, send  DMs, view @Replies  and view sent and received DMs. There are templates if you are into Tweeting the same canned text over and over. Unfinished Tweets can be saved as drafts.  On the other hand there are a lot of things missing; you can't see  Avatars or Twitpics or follow people.  And words are split across lines rather than wrapping properly. You can't follow links in Tweets either, although this is a limitation of the iDEN Java run-time rather than UTweetMe.

The other Twittter clients I tried and rejected are:
Twitlet: limited feature set and ugly full justified timeline display.
Jitter: TinyTwitter with ads.
Twibble, Twim: Failed to connect.

If anyone knows of a better Java Twitter client please let me know in a comment. For now, the best way to do Twitter on iDEN phones is Opera Mini combined with a good Web client like Tweete.net or Dabr.co.uk

Type: Freeware
Vendor: uTweetme - Product Page
Data Connection Required: Yes
Supported iDEN phones: All Falcon Series (i776, i465, i9, i290, etc.)

  1. go to getjar and get snaptu...works great and u can do everything...once u get snaptu u can get other apps besides twitter like myspace and facebook....sports and news...

    • can you send me the snaptu to my mail

  2. hate twitter kid. 4real its only for celebs........ I use opera 4.2 and the new bolt & UCweb which i got my fb and chat works well....so twitter suks idC how many celebs use ireallydontkare

    • To each their own. Actually, I think there are far more techies than celebs on Twitter.

  3. Just installed uTweetMe 1.3 Alpha on my Motorola i465g, works great. Both uTweetMe (earlier versions) and TinyTwitter are having problems logging into Twitter.

  4. can u please get a myspace app

    • Nimbuzz and eBuddy claim to support MySpace chat. Other than that I've never seen a MySpace app that works on iDEN phones. The official MySpace app is a site shortcut to http://m.myspace.com That URL works fine id Opera Mini, the site shortcut doesn't work at all.

  5. 1. opera mini 4.2 is a must! 2. goto: slandr.net A+ features 4 twttr!

  6. Can you please find a MySpace app, I love using MySpace on Opera Mini, but an app would be so great. Thanks.

    • Nimbuzz and eBuddy claim to support MySpace chat. I don't use MySpace so I haven't tried them with it. I don't know of any other MySpace apps that work.

  7. This one might be good. Same people that make the unified group IM Mobi make it. They link to getjar to download but that fails and searching on getjar for it? Forget it. Dabr.co.uk has it's own app on getjar, but it is solely an app that just opens your web browser to the Dabr.co.uk webpage. Makes no sense. Maybe we can give this twiitte app a try. The Unified IM by the same company also posted here works great and is the only IM app I can get that does multi protocalls on a non web based that works and works well.

  8. Josh facebook apps would only bring up the mobile facebook page. also the facebook apps along with the myspace apps are not compatible with moto iden phones so untill boost comes out with one that is you might not see a myspace or facebook app

  9. get a facebook app!or myspace

  10. you can all so go to tweetme.mobi from the mobile web works just a well only thing you cant search trends

  11. I tried a ton one day on the 7100i and found TinyTwitter to be the best over-all as java twitter clients go. UTweetMe ran second in my book, but others might prefer it. For the most part, full-feature Twitter access is best got via Dennis' online suggestions. The java clients are simply convenient for quick-posts and keeping up with those you follow. Well worth the little space they take up.

  12. Thanks for the info. I have been searching for a Twitter client. I'll give this a try.

  13. can u get a facebook app please, cuz that would be great!!!!
