Opera Mini is the best browser for iDEN phones. It's fast and can load almost any Web site, not just mobile sites but ones designed for desktop browsers like the full version of Howard Forums or the Yahoo homepage. 4.2 is the latest and most full featured version that runs on Motorola iDEN phones.
Type: Freeware
Vendor: Opera Software - Product Page, Online Help, Forum
Data Connection Required: Yes
Supported iDEN phones: Most Falcon Series with java(i776, i465, i290, etc.) only. Reported as not working on the i415. Not for i9 and i856! Click here the i9/i856 version.
Boost CDMA users (Incognito, Juno, Seek, etc.) and non-Boost users go to http://boostapps.com with your phone's browser, click the "Enter jump code" link and enter this jump code: 25
hey i downloaded opera 5.2 beta to my i856 from opera.com

One more thing, I don't even use the mobile site here! I'm more comfortable in the full site and it's nice. So it takes few seconds longer but it's worth it! I hate scrolling sideways PERIOD on any site. Found in full site mode, it eliminates this problem.
Actually, I meant in my previous msg that if you don't log off. You zip right back online without punching in your logon. I save mine as bookmarks. Be nice to have a copy n paste, password mgr on Opera. I love speed and looks, not ugly fonts and bulky menus
I love the auto complete address input on the 4.2. I noticed if you don't log off and just go to another site. It'll remember your username and password in a couple of clicks. The BOLT, and it's fonts really stink! Opera reproduces the site's looks!
I have the Nextel I465 and so far have been unable to get this app to work like it does on the sister company, Boost. Any suggestions?
Does it fail to connect? I think you have to have a data plan on Nextel, unlike Boost.
again THANK YOU : )
is it possible in any way you know of to wacth videos on my i465 clutch if so plz tell me
AFAIK, video of any kind is impossible on the i465. Unless you count animated GIF's
i found an app on getjar called youtube web that said it was compatable with i465, i cant download anything though through opera. not sure why
Andrew, I tried YouTube Web and it doesn't not work.
It doesn't mean much if Getjar say's somethings compatible, they don't actually test anything.
absolutely love it
it so much better than using the regular browser this is the best that i know of
How would you add the opera mini to the neww sanyo phones for Boost. Is it possible. I want a keyboard, but I need opera mini 4 and bolt lite as my browsers. Thanks
Opera Mini 5 is at http://boostapps.com/mini.htm but I don't think it will work on the i465. At least it doesn't on my i776.
All the Twitter apps I've tried are pretty bad or don't work at all. I've posted the best ones I've been able to find. Try using http://tweete.net in Opera Mini 4.2, it's much better than any of the apps.
Where can I get Opera Mini Beta 5 for my i465 ? & is can you put up more twitter clients please
got it to load finally. had to call boost as it was something on their end that was causing the internal confusion..... 4.2 is AWESOME!!!!! (compared to what was factory)
Mike are you using the BoostApps "Send To Phone" button to download Opera Mini?
I just tried it and had no trouble downloading an installing both Opera Mini 4.2 and 3.1.
If the problem persists and you have a PC, try downloading the ZIP file to your computer, renaming it and sending it to your phone with the Sprint iDEN Content Uploader at http://144.230.114.35/adp1/FUN/index.jsp
There is a bug in the content uploader (which BoostApps also uses internally) where it arbitrarily rejects certain ZIP file names. Rename the file and it works! It doesn't really seem to matter what you rename the ZIP to. I usually just add or remove a letter from the file name. In a few cases I've had to rename the file a couple of times before it would work. Opera Mini 4.2 was the worstI. Mini.zip, Mini2.zip, Mini3.zip, Mini4.zip and Mini5.zip all gave a 904 error but Mini42.zip worked.
Once I find a "good" filename it always seems to work for everyone who uses the exact same file and name. So I'm surprised to hear you are having problems. If you get it working please leave a comment letting us know what you did.
got a failed Downoad with status code:904(Attribute Mismatch) Please retry.
I had 3.1 loaded without any problems and removed it prior to trying to install 4.2. Now I cant get 3.1 back on my i465 either. Any thoughts
same here installed beta 5 in i290, it installs just fine but it never finishes loading afterwards
My phone says Opera Mini is using 4,193,910.41 KBs too. Which is crazy and impossible. That's almost 4 GB which is 500 times the phone's total memory of 8 MB! And I still have 2.4 MB free.
Rather than a memory leak I think it's a bug in the phone's memory used calculation.
I've been using Opera Mini since version 1.0 and my iDEN phones have always reported crazy memory usage for it. But it keeps working and free memory doesn't seem to decrease so I wouldn't worry about it
memory leak, or some thing like it, on i290. data space usage said over 4 million KB. maybe they need to use the garbage collector...
I have also installed Opera Mini 4.2 on multiple Boost phones ranging from an i415 to an i465 and i776.
It works fine on all of them. The Boost network is slow, but it does work.
I used the iden content uploader at http://144.230.114.35/adp1/FUN/index.jsp
http://free-ringtones-download.org/carriers/boost/
Thanks so much for all your help..
I tried that site, the wap connection but that also gives the 500 error.. Do you get this as well? Turning off mobile view DOES make the captchas visible.. However it makes screen a little difficult to navigate since the page no longer fits the screen.. Can't win 'em all I guess.
Jess, I haven't found a way to send ringtones, wallpapers or screen savers over the air like apps. You have to use Bluetooth or a cable/software combination.
Jess, In Opera Mini turn off Mobile View if it's on. That may make the CAPTCHA visible. If it doesn't try Bolt or as a last resort UCWEB 6.3.
Also, a minor issue.. with opera mini 4.2.. Theres some sites that certain images don't load, such as a game I play the captcha needed to log in doesn't show on mini.. Any other program you may know of better suited for this type of thing?
Thank you for your timely reply! No I got the 500 error while trying to access opera through my phone.. When I send it from here I just get "no new purchases..".. Well actually.. I DID get that but now I see that all the ones I sent from here have finally went through.. My phone has blue tooth but my computer doesn't.. Is there any way to obtain ring tones the same way the apps on this site are sent? Thanks again.
Jess, As far as I know you can't download anything direct to your Boost phone from any sites except Boost itself where nothing is free and this site where everything is.
For ringtones and wallpapers, if you phone supports Bluetooth see here:
http://boostapps.com/tutorials/how-to-install-wallpaper-using-bluetooth/
http://boostapps.com/tutorials/ringtones/
Did you get the 500 error downloading Opera Mini from here? If so try again it should work now. The 500 error occurs when BoostApps gets overloaded, which is not very often.
Hey.. I see a lot of you saying with a new account you may need to wait a while before you can download apps.. That's fine but the error "500 error" I get when I try and go to the opera site from my i465.. I also get it when I try to download ring tones/wallpaper/screen savers from sites that aren't boost.. Will this issue also go away in a few days or do I have a bigger problem? Thanks in advance for any replies.
I have been trying to get 4.2 on my phone for months! Finally thanks to you my i776 is loaded and running great!
Thank you Dennis I got it to upload...it was the dashes in my #. You guys rock!!!
Brandon, Sorry to hear that you are having trouble downloading apps. I don't really know what the problem is but here are a few ideas:
1. When you enter your phone number on the BoostApps download page do not include the leading "1" or any dashes or spaces, just the 10 digits starting with the area code.
2. If you have a new Boost account Download Apps may not work for the first few days so keep trying.
3. An alternate way to download apps is with the iDEN Content Uploader web service see: How To: Load (Almost) Any Game or App On Boost and Nextel
4. It's also possible to load apps with a cable and a PC by using Motorola's iDEN JAL program. See this page: http://wapreview.com/blog/?page_id=207 for instructions.
Oh I tried the Send to Phone button and when I look to see in the download Aps it is not there. I tried 4.1 and the 3 no indication it went to my phone. Then I went to the site it self to down load and they sent the link to my phone and that is when I got those messages. I also checked my My Info and the correct # is on Line 1. i have no idea what to do next. I guess that is the price you pay for 50$ a month and not a contract phone that have on site costumer service to fix issues.
Brandon, You have to use the the "Send to Phone" button to download to Boost and Nextel phones. If that's what you are doing and you still get an error please explain at what point in the process you get the error.
How did you guys download it on the i465? When I tried I get the message the the Opera Mini 4.2 that my phone model could not be detected. Then I try the other version and get a 406 message.
http://www.mobilerated.com/dope-wars-zx-1240.html - got it to work on my i465
Kate, with Boost you normally have to wait a few days after you open a new account before you can download apps.
Another thing to check is that your phone number is appears correctly in Menu -> My Info -> Line 1. If Line 1 is blank or wrong, correct it as this vcan also prevent downloads from working.
You do not need mobile web enabled in order to download. In fact, if you don't need it to use Opera Mini or another app on Boost, I'm not sure about Nextel though.
I've tried downloading (both Opera and Odysseus), but when I go to "Download Apps -> New Purchases," I'm told that I haven't purchased any apps for my phone.
I'm running a brand-new i465 Clutch.
What am I doing wrong? Everyone else seems to be able to push apps to their phone, and I'd really like to be able to do web browsing on this.
I don't yet have daily web enabled on the phone; I was waiting to do that until after I had Opera installed. Do I need web access to download apps?
jpope83, That error indicates that the application is not compattible with your phone. Try Opera Mini 3.1 or Bolt.
I've tried loading Opera Mini 4.2 on my i415B and everytime i try to install it it comes up with "VM Class Loading Error" trying to load "f.class". I have no clue what to do...
how about opera mini 5 ,is there a big difference with 3 and 4 ?
I want to download operamini 4.2
Bill, Try pressing the menu key twice. I don't know about the QWERTY i465 but on the models with phone keypads that will bring up a menu where you can change the input method to numeric.
I installed 4.2 on my i465 OK but i can't type a web address with a number in it. Anyone have and suggestions? I tried the fn key but still get letters instead of numbers.
I don't think YouTube or any streaming video or audio is possible with iDEN. The network is much too slow.
i uploaded opra mini 3 it works great just cant view youtube videos or listen or download music
"Im not very technical savy. Is there anything I need to know before trying to add a new browser to my phone?"
Not really, it should just work.
Im not very technical savy. Is there anything I need to know before trying to add a new browser to my phone?
how do I get Opera Mini on my i465 phone please help
I LOVE Opera Mini! It runs perfectly fine on my clutch! Thank you VERY much, Dennis!
The i335 is a Falcon series phone so Opera Mini 4.2 should work on. Why don't you try it and let us know?
All model numbers starting with the letter "i" followed by three numbers are Falcons except for the the i930 and i920.
what about i335?
I have been successfully running 4.2 on my i465 since June with NO PROBLEMS! I have also installed this version on my customer's phones and they all love it.
I tested beta 5 both on my i776 & i850 both installed and would run but would not fully load or start
